☕ How Many Coffee Beans Can the Average Person Fit in Their Mouth?
Share
😬 The Human Average: 38–54 Coffee Beans
-
Methodology (loosely inspired by science and chaos):
We took the average adult oral cavity volume: about 72–96 mL (or 2.5–3.25 oz).
The average Arabica coffee bean is about 0.12 grams and roughly 0.15–0.2 mL in volume.
This gives us:
👉 38–54 beans comfortably jammed into a mouth before choking or dental consequences occur. -
Comfort Level Ratings:
-
25 beans = Confident party trick
-
40 beans = Why is your dentist calling you?
-
50+ beans = Hospital. Maybe local news.
-
🏆 Guinness-Worthy Extremes:
-
Largest Human Mouth:
Francisco Domingo Joaquim of Angola holds the record at 17 cm (6.7 in) wide.
Experts estimate he could fit at least 80–100 beans—or an entire espresso shot's worth of regret. -
Smallest Recorded Adult Mouth:
Medical cases show extreme microstomia (tiny mouth) can limit intake to around 10–12 beans max.
Sounds low, but imagine trying to speed-chew espresso gravel. It’s still impressive.
🐾 And Now… the Animal Kingdom:
-
Hamster Cheeks:
Pouches stretch up to 20 mL per side. That’s a theoretical 200 beans in total—although they’ll bury them and judge you silently. -
Capybara:
Surprisingly chill, but with a mouth big enough for 80–100 beans. They wouldn’t, but they could. -
Hippo:
Up to 4 feet wide. Could hold 15,000+ beans but chooses violence instead. Do not try to caffeinate a hippo. -
Golden Retriever (for scale):
Roughly 100–200 beans depending on guilt level and how fast you say “drop it.”
⚠️ Important Warnings:
-
Do NOT attempt this at home. Choking on dry beans is not the legacy you want.
-
Coffee beans are high in caffeine. Ingesting too many can cause jitteriness, nausea, heart palpitations, or spontaneous conversations about NFTs.
